The results were outstanding

Caroline Pearmund - Character Solo - 1st Place

Who would have believed it was their first competition! I am hoping to add more entries and more pupils next year.......so watch this space for more information.

Arts Awards

We are really excited to be able to offer the 'Arts Award' at Azure Theatre School. This is a government recognised award and a valuable additional qualification for students planning to attend, college, university, or have a career in the Arts.

Poppy Strike, is qualified to deliver this award, and we are opening the class to students aged 13 years and up in January 2010.

What is the Arts Award?

The arts award is an exciting scheme that recognises young people’s development through the arts. The Arts award treats young people as young artists, and expects them to develop their own arts practise, engage with the world of the arts and share their skills through leadership projects.

What the Arts Award aims to do

The Arts Award is a national qualification which supports young people in their development as artists and arts leaders. The award fosters creative, communication and leadership skills and helps to prepare young people for further education and employment.

The Bronze Award – a level 1 qualification

The Bronze Award enables young people to take an active part in the arts as well as experiencing the arts as audience members. Young people create personal arts folders in the format of their choice to record their experiences. The folders also show how young people research the work of an artist they admire and how they share their skills and interests with others.

To pass this unit, young people should create an arts folder which demonstrates:

• Their active participation in any art form.
• Their attendance and appreciation of at least one arts event
• Their research into the work of an artist they admire
• Their experience of sharing an arts skill.

The Silver Award – a level 2 qualification (equivalent to GCSE A-C)

The silver award consists of two units. Both of which must be recorded and documented in a personal art folder.

Commitment

We are planning to initially work with students who are 13 years and up, they will immediately start work on the silver award which we anticipate would take two terms (January 2010 - July 2010), students will then have the option to work towards the gold award (A-Level equivalent) in the follow school year.

Students will draw upon their existing classes however would need extra sessions to complete the requirements of the award - produce, organise and polish moderation pieces and complete the portfolio to submit at the end of the course.

The session would run on Saturdays, after stage school from 1 - 2pm, every week.

Students would also have to attend a professional theatre piece during the course, this may be done as a class or individually.

Costs

The cost of the course would be £7 per session, payable termly, depending on the amount of weeks in the term the entire cost would be around £150 (payable over two terms). This includes all classes, submission fees, Arts Award course book and moderation fees.

Additional costs, will include a theatre trip, any specialist portfolio materials.

What to do now

If you are interested and would like some more information, Poppy will be around at 1pm this Saturday to answer any questions or queries regarding the Award.

Should you wish to confirm a place after this, please let me know via email or in person and I will add them to the January register
