Imperial Classical Ballet

Ballet forms the basis for all other dance styles as it helps develop strength, posture, grace, co-ordination, muscle tone, technique and musical awareness. Classical Ballet classes are available to students from 3 yrs and over.

Up to the age of 5 Azure Theatre School has a clear philosophy that the emphasis should be on fun, imagination and musicality, we do work towards improving posture and basic leg and arms lines, however through experience we feel if too much discipline is put on to children at such a young age they are likely to lose interest and not continue with their Ballet training, it is also important not to put too much strain on young bodies.

After the age of 6, students are encouraged to start working towards examinations. These exams have been devised and are regulated by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) by an external examiner. This provides a worthwhile sense of achievement both for children and young adults who dance for recreation and for those hoping to pursue a career in classical ballet.

Once a student has successfully passed their examination they will move to the next grade and this will progressively develop a child's technical ability and understanding, giving him or her a sense of dance, poise and an understanding of its relation to music.

Modern Theatre Dance

Children from the age of 4 can begin to learn Modern Theatre Dance.

Modern is able to create a sense of discipline in a less formal environment than Ballet. Students are encouraged to use their expression, musicality. Modern is an ideal opportunity to encourage children to exercise regularly in a safe and nurturing way. The genre combines modern dance, natural movement and jazz styles.

The ISTD syllabus is adapted and follows developing and evolving fashions in dance.

Through a carefully planned and well-tried examination syllabus, young people are trained to become disciplined and versatile dancers who have a professional attitude towards dance.

The Modern Theatre Syllabus has, in part, a separate syllabus for boys and is therefore an excellent way of encouraging boys into dance and allows them to feel enthusiastic and proud.

Tap Dance

Apart from being an essential skill for the professional dancer, tap dance is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of recreational dance.

It is very popular with children and adults alike! The ISTD have developed an excellent tried and tested examination process which can train students into becoming excellent tappers with a full understanding of rhythm, timing and musicality.

Students at Azure Theatre School will have the chance to follow the ISTD syllabus and move through the grades as they achieve each standard, again this is regulated by an external examiner.

Street Jazz

These classes, are fast and fun! We begin with an exhilarating warm-up followed by stretching to increase flexibility; students will then work on an up-to-date routine to the latest chart tracks!

No exams are taken in Street Jazz; therefore the emphasis is on working on fitness, creativity and keeping up with the latest funky styles.

Musical Theatre

We offer musical theatre classes for children aged 5 and up. These are very popular classes as we encompass drama, singing and dancing within one class.

The classes are an excellent way to improve confidence, develop new skills and make friends. Each term the class works on a segue from a different play and musical with the view to perform it. This is a great way for children to express themselves and get rid of any excess energy!

Creative Drama

These are challenging and interesting classes allowing students to develop their drama skills and stage awareness through drama games, improvisation, audition techniques and script work.

This class is excellent to encourage communication skills and confidence.

Theatre Stage School

Students between the ages of 6 and 16 years have the opportunity to work on all aspects of performing arts including Drama, Dance & Singing.

Whether they want to build confidence, learn a new skill, make new friends or have dreams of performing professionally, Theatre Stage School can make it happen.

The school will runs every Saturday morning during term-time from 10-1pm in the Slough area. Classes are split by age and ability, each group spends an hour with each teacher, who are professionals within their genre. The school climaxes in a full production at a professional venue, students will also have other performance opportunities, the chance to take ISTD dance examinations and may also be coached and encouraged to attend professional auditions.
